William Woodside Sr.

William L. Woodside Sr., 87, of Mt. Holly Springs, PA, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at his residence. William was born November 8, 1929 in McGrann, PA to the late Orville King and Mary Myrtle Klingensmith Woodside.

William retired in 1991, after 39 years of service, from PPG Industries, where he was a production supervisor. A United States Army veteran, William served during the Korean War. He was also a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Carlisle and life member of the VFW, Post 7343, Mt. Holly Springs. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. William enjoyed collecting Budweiser and other memorabilia.

Surviving is his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Ellen Thevenin Woodside; a son, William L. Woodside Jr. of Mt. Holly Springs; daughters Deborah Houck and husband, Thomas of Carlisle, Ruth Anne Woodside of Mechanicsburg, Brenda Boyd of Minneapolis, MN, Sandra Cole and husband, Steven of Endwell, NY, Amy Hewitt and husband, Konrad of Easton, PA, Cathy Myers of Carlisle, Mary Hair and husband, Brent of Walnut Bottom, PA and Jacqueline Bear of Huntsdale; 14 Grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Linnie Rodgers of Elderton, PA; and his loving dog, Daisy Mae. William is preceded in death by siblings, King Woodside Jr., Robert D. Woodside, Helen Hartman, Dorothy Bouch, Betty Mohney, Lois Jean Smith and Willavena Woodside, who passed in childhood. He is also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Tim Bear.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Dr., Carlisle, PA 17015 with the Very Rev. William C. Forrey as celebrant. A viewing will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065. Burial will be held with military honors, provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard, in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 152 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle, PA 17013 or Celtic Hospice and Home Health, 900 Century Dr., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
