William J. Cavanaugh Jr., in his 90 th year, peacefully passed away on September 26, 2014 in the presence of his family, after a long and courageous battle with multiple illnesses. Bill, a resident of Cumberland Crossings, Carlisle, PA and a former resident of Haddon Heights, NJ, was a very kind and humble man whose life was centered around his family.
He attended the University of Delaware, and had a career in sales of farm and construction equipment. Bill was a decorated combat veteran of the US Army during WW II, serving with the 101 st Airborne. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Carlisle.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Eleanor (“Ellie”) Robie Cavanaugh, their cherished 4 children Lynne (Joe) Young of Bluffton, SC, Jan (Joel) Feidelman of Longboat Key, FL, Jim (Diane Talarico) Cavanaugh of Charlottesville, VA, and Nancy (Eric) Pfisterer of Camp Hill, PA, 9 adored grandchildren and 2 wonderful great- grandchildren (with a 3 rd on the way).
Private graveside services will be held on Friday, October 3, in the Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life in the Cumberland Crossings Community Center on Saturday, October 4, at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, 1 Longsdorf Way, Carlisle, PA 17015, or Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110. The family deeply appreciates their wonderful care to Bill.
