Virden "Clair" Gardner

Virden “Clair” Gardner, 85, of Mt. Holly Springs died on Sunday, June 2, 2013 in the Forest Park Health Care Center, Carlisle with his loving family by his side. He was born in Idaville (Adams Co.), PA on Thursday, July 7 1927 to the late Arthur and Pauline Toner Gardner and was preceded by a daughter Denise A. Gardner Dunbar who died on Jan. 24, 2005.

Clair was a retired insurance agent for the former Washington National Life Insurance Company.  He was a Navy Veteran serving in WWII and was a member of the Mt. Holly Springs V.F.W, Post #7343.  Clair loved to work around the house and helping others.  He loved watching sprint car racing and attending races at our local tracks.

Clair is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Fern A. Kuhn Gardner, two sons; Dennis A. Gardner of Enola and Brian C. and his wife Paula Gardner of Carlisle, two sisters; Jean Sperring of Carlisle and Deanne Lyman of New Hampshire.  Also surviving are four grandchildren; Jennifer Dunbar Gilfus, Jeremy, Nathan and Cory Gardner, three nieces; Melanie Sheriff, Megan Heckert and Linda Mauk; three nephews, David Sperring, Darren and Douglas Lyman and a great nephew Cameron Sheriff.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church, 202 W. Butler St. Mt. Holly Springs.  Officiating will be the Rev. Ed Alwine.  There will be a visitation in the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until time of services.  Interment will be private in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.  The family request memorial contribution to be made to the church.   Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA.
