Carlisle

Vicki Ann Tinnes passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 3, 2024, of natural causes in Carlisle, PA, after a long life well-lived. She was born May 21, 1940, in Somerset, NJ, to the late George and Eleanor Tinnes of Annandale, NJ.

Vicki attended North Hunterdon Regional High School where English was her favorite subject. She loved sports and the theater. Vicki was accepted to Moravian College in 1959, and in the summer of 1961, she supported the colleges medical mission to Nicaragua as a nurse’s assistant. She graduated was a bachelor’s degree in English in 1962, then moved to New York City, and worked for Alvin Ailey Dance Company in the props and costumes department. Vicki and her then husband, John Hartmann, took their skills to Cooperstown, NY, where she worked for many years at the Cooperstown Playhouse. She and John moved to Port Angeles, then to Seattle, WA, which became her home for 40 years. After Vicki’s divorce in 1986, she became very active in the Seattle Unity church, helping to create their internet following.

Vicki began teaching physical education classes at High Point Elementary School in 1997 in Seattle, WA, where she inspired many children with her kindness and ability to include everyone. During this time, she survived breast cancer and was hit by a drunk driver. Vicki’s spirit, strong support of her family and friends, and spirituality helped her overcome these aspects of life. In 2009, Vicki moved to Mt. Holly Springs, PA, to be near her sister Pam and brother Phil. For the past five years, she resided at Chapel Pointe in Carlisle where her indomitable spirit delighted and challenged the staff. She will be missed.

Vicki is survived by her oldest brother, Philip (Barbara) Tinnes, younger sister Pam (Bill) Lord, and youngest sister, Susanna Gilbert; nieces and nephews, Matt Odman, Leigh (Michael) Gronau, Jennifer (Tim) Zelmanski, Chris (Darryl) Heckle, and Chuck (Heidi) Lord. She is also survived by her cosmic buddy, Corey Flynn, her college roommates, Bo Snyder, and Linda Burnett, singer/songwriter and spiritual guide to Assisi Charlie (Heidi) Thweatt, and many cousins. She is predeceased by her niece, Stephanie Tinnes; nephew, Jeffrey Tinnes; and beloved dogs, Boots and Bandit.
