Stafford McIntyre Hanna, 92, died peacefully on September 10, 2018 in the Thornwald Home, Carlisle, PA. Born on April 14, 1926 in Brooklyn NY, he was the son of Alexander and Lucille Hanna and the widower of Patricia A. (Brennan) Hanna, who passed away in 2011, after 60 years of marriage.
Stafford served honorably in the US Navy during World War II. After the Navy and graduating from Mohawk Valley Community College, he began a long career as a financial analyst and auditor with IBM. Stafford married Patricia on March 31, 1951 in Utica, NY. They lived and raised their family in Beacon, NY and then retired to Cape Cod for 20 years, at the beach. Stafford and Pat enjoyed traveling all over the US and Europe. In Beacon, Stafford was active at St. John Evangelist Church, was Commissioner for Human Rights and helped reorganize the local city government structure. He mostly enjoyed family life.
Stafford is survived by his six children, Ellen (James) Kievit of Carlisle PA, Elizabeth (William) Buchalter of Stuart FL, Clare (Michael) Mandia of Wappinger Falls NY, Philip (Julie) Hanna of Hendersonville NC, Jennifer (Marsha Crawford) Hanna of Tenino WA and Martin (Kerry) Hanna of Easley SC.; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Lucille King of NC.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 87 Marsh Dr., Carlisle, PA, 17015 with Rev. Joshua Cavender as celebrant. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service and burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA .
