R. William”Bill” McCoy, husband, father and grandfather, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, February 15 th , 2015 at the age of 101.
He was born the fifth of seven children to Elmer McCoy and Mary Peffer McCoy of Dickinson Township on August 16, 1913. He is survived by three children, Joan McCoy Posey, Marjorie McCoy Group and William C. McCoy, who with their spouses are all residents of Mt. Holly Springs, and by 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 80 years, Fay Elizabeth Trostle McCoy who passed April 27, 2013; also by his sisters, Clara M., Grace E., and Elizabeth M. (Betty) and brothers, John P., Luther L. (Lee), and Glenn S. (Bud).
Mr. McCoy was a life-long member of Barnitz United Methodist Church. He was a founder of McCoy Brothers, Inc., formed in March of 1946 by him and his three brothers. The business was originally located on Pine Road in Mt. Holly Springs, and still exists today. He served in the Seabees during WWII, in the Pacific during 1945. Bill was an avid car enthusiast, collecting and restoring antique cars for nearly 50 years. He was one of the founding members of the Gettysburg Region Antique Automobile Club of America, serving as president in 1966-1967. He was also a member of the National AACA and a member of Old Town Run Mountain Lodge since 1955. He was a life member of BPOE#578 and Old Timers Club, and a long time member of the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery Board. Together with his wife, he had many years of traveling and enjoying antique cars with their friends in the club. He enjoyed attending multiple car shows per year, for over 30 years at the Carlisle Fairgrounds.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday February 20, 2015 at 11:30 AM in Barnitz United Methodist Church, 23 Church Lane, Carlisle, PA 17015 with the Rev. Matthew Plant officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to his church.
