Ruth Vanasdalan

Ruth Margaret Vanasdalan, 87, of Mt. Holly Springs, PA passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born January 24, 1928 in Gettysburg to the late Paul E. and Anice M. Deardorff Koontz and was the widow of Charles W. Vanasdalan Sr. who passed away on April 18, 2004.

Ruth retired from Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Holly Springs.  She worked the polls and helped people on voting day at the St. Patrick Church. Ruth had a busy retirement, boating with her husband on the Chesapeake at Havre de Grace, MD. Her pastimes were reading, jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo and working in her yard and flower garden. She was very family oriented, enjoying gatherings with her children and their activities, taxi-ing them to their events and lessons. Ruth dearly loved her cat, Gussie.

She is survived by four daughters, Joan L. Vanasdalan of Gaithersburg, MD; Sheri L. Hosterman of Mt. Holly Springs; Amy R. Vanasdalan and Sue A. (Rick) Deitch, both of Carlisle; and a son, Charles W. Vanasdalan Jr. of Concord, NH. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and a brother, Ronald L. Koontz of NJ. Ruth was predeceased by her brother, Paul R. Koontz.

Services will be held Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 5:00 PM in Mt. Holly Springs Church of God, 602 McLand Road, Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 with the Rev. Richard L. Reese officiating. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service.              Interment will be in the Idaville Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Furry Friends Network, PO Box 519, Boiling Springs, PA 17007. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Mt.
