Robert Trace

Robert W. “Smoke” Trace, 82, of Mechanicsburg, PA passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.  He was born March 24, 1932 in Mechanicsburg, PA to the late Harry D. and Ruth L. Unger Trace Sr.

Robert was a retired Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force and retired from the West Shore School District. He served in the United States Air Force, during the Vietnam War.

Memberships include:    Honor and life member of the Washington Fire Co., Honor and life member of the Mechanicsburg Club for over 50 years, Past President and life member of the Cumberland County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association, life member of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Fireman’s Association, Past President and life member of the Fireman’s Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and life member of VFW Post #6704. Bob was also a member of the American Legion Post # 109, Air Force Sergeant’s Association, the Mechanicsburg Museum Association, and the PA National Fire Museum of Harrisburg.

Robert is survived by his sister, Donna Shughart  of Carlisle, 13 nieces and nephews, 19 great nieces and nephews, and 8 great-great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Kenneth and Harry Jr.  and 2 sisters, Wilma “Sue” Fike and Nancy Peterman.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 9:30 AM in the Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg, PA with the Rev. Judy Strayer officiating. There will be a viewing at the Malpezzi Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The Cumberland County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association will conduct a memorial service at 7:30PM on Tuesday evening. Interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.  Memorial contributions may be made to Washington Fire Co. #1, 53 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 .
