Robert Shannon, 84, of Carlisle passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015 in his home. He was born March 29, 1930 in Pawtucket, RI to the late Thomas and Alice Hunt Shannon.
Robert served in the Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retiring from the Army as a Lt. Coronel he helped out at the Army War College golf course. Golfing, crafts and woodworking were his favorite pastimes.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy M. Waller Shannon of Carlisle; 2 sons Kevin Shannon of Carlisle and Atlanta, GA and Brian (Susan) Shannon of East Berlin; a daughter, Karen Shannon of Smyrna, GA; 3 grandchildren; and a brother William Shannon of Providence, RI.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 6, at 10:30 AM in the Mary Queen of Peace Chapel at the Carlisle Barracks, with Father Gregory D’Emma celebrant. A visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 7 PM, March 5 in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave. Mt. Holly Springs. Interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Online condolences may be made to the family at
