Richard "Dick" Edwards

Richard “Dick” Clair Edwards, age 93, of Carlisle, PA and formerly of Mt. Holly Springs, passed away Monday, December 8, 2014 in the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Born April 26, 1921 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Clair Victor Edwards and Rita (Murphy) Edwards.

Richard was a US Army veteran and served in both WWII and Korea.

He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) and Amtrak with 41 years of service, ending his career as a conductor on the Broadway Limited.  Dick was a graduate of William Penn High School, Harrisburg. He was a member of the BPOE # 578, Carlisle and the Mt Holly Springs United Methodist Church. Dick loved the railroad and enjoyed playing cards, ballroom dancing, golfing and traveling.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lorraine Shaffer Edwards; a daughter, Vickie Marsh and husband Mike of Frederick, MD and his son, Keith and wife Cindy of Houston, TX. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Lauren Marsh Burns and her husband Brian of Charlotte, NC and Dana Edwards Cronkite and  husband John of Bothell, WA; two grandsons, Christopher Edwards and  wife Kimmy of Houston, TX and JD Edwards and  wife Michelle of Houston, TX; and a nephew, James Brantner and family of Carlisle.

Richard was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathaleen Brantner and Lorraine Speraw and his brother, Robert Edwards.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church, 202 W. Butler St., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 with the Rev. Edward B. Alwine officiating.  A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 PM until the service. Interment will be in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to his church.  Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs, PA.
