Richard L. Mentzer, 87, of Carlisle, PA, passed away on November 25, 2023, at his residence. He was born March 3, 1936, in Carlisle to the late Lester A. and Rosie E. (Lay) Mentzer.
Richard retired from Frog Switch Manufacturing Company with over thirty years of service and was a United States National Guard Veteran. During his time at Frog Switch, he was also working in roofing and painting, in his spare time. After his retirement, he became a partner in a well drilling business for a short time. Richard then moved on to working for himself in exterior painting, where he would paint barns and roofs. Richard would also offer his handyman services to elderly in the Mount Holly Springs and surrounding areas. His memberships included Gold Wing Road Riders, Chapter K, life member of the Turnpike Ramblers, and life member of the American Motorcycle Association (AMA), involved with Pontiac Antique Car Club. Richard and Becky traveled the road full-time for over twelve years in their motor home, visiting many places and also traveling many miles on their motorcycle. In his spare time, he loved motorcycles, antique car shows, camping, and hunting in his younger years. Richard attended the Newville First Church of God and also Great Hope Baptist Church.
Surviving is his loving wife of 63 years, Rebecca “Becky” (Rank) Mentzer of Carlisle; brother, Ronald L. Mentzer of Shippensburg; niece, Shawndel M. Staruh (Jeff) of Mount Holly Springs; and nephew, Barry L. Mentzer of Newburg. Richard was preceded in death by his infant son, Richard Leroy Mentzer.
No services will be held at this time per Richard’s request. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Newville First Church of God or Great Hope Baptist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
