Richard C. Bowers, 70, of Mt. Holly Springs rode off unto the sunset on June 3, 2018.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene L. Bowers, children Tomaya T. Lebo, Richard E. Mallien, brother Donald B. Bowers and various in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Richard was a retired boiler plant engineer at the Carlisle Barracks War College.
He was a member of the Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the VFW, the 1st Cavalry Division, the Edward Jay Rykoskey Post #1 Carlisle Vietnam Veterans, Inc., and a lifetime member of the Carlisle AMVETS Post 274.
He was a disabled veteran of the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1972, serving 3 1/2 years.
He was a staff sergeant with the United States Army. He served with the Big Red One 1st Infantry, the 1st Calvary Division in Vietnam. He also served as a drill instructor at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Richard was active in supporting veterans and volunteered his time rallying for the cause. He was an outdoorsman who loved to fish, and spend time hunting from his tree stand. He was a jack of all trades and ready for action the moment there was a need for help.
His love for horses ran especially deep and he was often referred to as our local "cowboy," rarely seen without his signature wide brimmed cowboy hat.
