Paul C. Herr, 88, of South Middleton Twp., passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born October 2, 1924 in Mt. Holly Springs, to the late Merrill & Gertrude Minnich Herr.
Paul retired from the Carlisle Barracks Commissary as the manager. He was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible Class, and was a former member of the Flying Club of Carlisle. He was a staff sergeant in the US Army during WWII, serving as an Army Ranger in the Pacific and recipient of the Bronze Star.
He is survived by his wife, Betty McNew Herr and his son, Donald L. (Jennifer) Herr of Bloomington, Indiana. Three grandchildren, David M. (Emily) Herr of Bloomington, Indiana and great grandson, Otto Paul Herr; Jonathan M. (Susan) Herr serving in the U.S. Navy, deployed on the USS John C. Stennis Ship and stationed in Seattle, WA and great grandson, Christopher David Herr; and Dr. of Physical Therapy Daniel M. (Rebekah) Herr of Indianapolis, Indiana and his sister Darlene Herr of Millmont, PA.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA with the Rev. Rick Robinson, his pastor officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. The viewing will be held in the funeral home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church at 420 Park Dr., Carlisle, PA 17015.
