Norma McMillan

Norma Jane Dorwart McMillan, 87, of Carlisle, died in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, on April 2, 2014 from heart failure. She was the loving wife of John W. McMillan, Jr. and the devoted mother to daughters, Linda Pendleton Ward (Charles) of Mechanicsburg and Kathi Pendleton of Harrisburg.

Predeceasing Norma were her parents, John and Florence Dorwart of Thompsontown and her siblings; Betty Roush (Omer) of Camp Hill, Patricia Horton (William) of Carlisle and Jack Dorwart (Virginia) of McAlisterville.

Norma was born on November 8, 1926 and raised in Thompsontown, Juniata County.  Her family later moved to New Cumberland, where she and her siblings graduated from the New Cumberland High School in the 1940’s. Norma worked many years for the Cumberland County National Bank (now PNC),  at the New Cumberland Army Depot and at the Camp Hill Shopping Center.

She was a past member of the Sweet Adelines choral group. Norma’s later interests focused on reading, her family and her many friends. Her kind sweet nature and her genuine interest in others created and drew a wide circle of admirers and friends.

In addition to her two daughters, Norma’s legacy is also expressed through her four grandchildren: Wendy (Patrick) Sherwood of Pottstown, Robert (Carmen) Wetzler of Dallas, Texas, Amy Kilcullen of Pottstown, and Charity (Scott) Tabor of Pottstown. Her legacy continues through the blessing of 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 11:30 AM at the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA with the Rev. John J. Ward-Diorio officiating. There will be a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Interment will be in the Mount Rose Cemetery, York, PA.  In leiu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
