Nancy M. Codner, 79, of Boiling Springs, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013. She was born September 4, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan and was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy Paterson Allison. Nancy graduated at the top of her class at Groveport High School in Ohio, where she met her late husband of 53 years, John Codner, who passed away December 18, 2006.
Nancy was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her four children; Gregory (Tammy) Codner of Dillsburg, Sharon Brandt of Boiling Springs, De-De (Michael) Najdek of Carlisle, Douglas (Jenelle) of Dillsburg; eight grandchildren; her sister, Kay Sharer of Green Valley, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
As a first generation American, her love for her Scottish heritage was evident every day. Nancy enjoyed worldwide travel with her family, camping, hiking, skiing, playing Bridge, gardening, sewing, and had a passion for politics.
Nancy served her communities in numerous capacities, sharing her time and talents while making a difference in the lives of others. She was an active volunteer in the Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops of her children, Cumberland County Elections, United Methodist Women’s groups, Beta Mothers Club, the Organ on Trust in Rangeley Maine, Monroe Township Planning Commission, Women’s Auxiliary of the Salvation Army, Ducks Unlimited and numerous other service organizations. Most of all, Nancy’s greatest joy was sharing in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, January 19 in the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 647 Forge Road, Carlisle, with the Reverend Daniel Dennis officiating. A reception will be held in the church Fellowship Hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Hershey Medical Center for Cancer Research, 500 University Dr., Hershey, PA 17033. Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Avenue, Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065.
