Myrl I. Hockenberry, 97, formerly of Carlisle, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015 in the Sarah Todd Memorial Home.  Born in York, PA on May 4, 1917 to the late Harry M. and Flora Myers Hockenberry, he is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Vada Bistline Hockenberry.

Myrl served in the US Army during WWII, in the 291st Infantry,  serving in Belgium,  at the Battle of the Bulge and with the PA Air National Guard. He was retired from the Naval Depot Ships Parts Control Center, he worked as an equipment specialist. Myrl was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and participated in the United Methodist Men group. Other memberships include: Carlisle AARP, Mt. Holly Springs Golden Age Club, NARFE Chapter 373, the Plainfield Grange,  Carlisle VFW #477 and American Legion # 101. He also volunteered for the Carlisle Meals on Wheels. He was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts and for many years was instrumental in organizing a troop, which is still functioning at Good Shepherd Church.  Also known as “don’t-cha-know” Myrl had a good story to tell, a twinkle in his eye, a warm smile for all and plenty of hugs.

Myrl was predeceased by a sister, Gretna Galaspy; a brother, Millo J. Hockenberry and his son, David Lee Hockenberry who passed away on January 8, 2015.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM in his church, 2135 Ritner Highway, Carlisle, PA 17013 with the Rev. Scott Hocker and Rev. Richard Noggle officiating.  There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.  Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
