Mervin Jay March, 82 formerly of Pine Road, Dickinson Twp. Carlisle, PA passed on Friday morning May 17 th , in the Green Ridge Retirement Center, Newville, PA. He was born in Mt. Holly Springs, PA on July 19, 1930 to the late William S. and Viola Coulson March.
Pfc. March served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from May 1952 to April 1954. He began his carpentry career with William S. March & Sons and more recently was a self-employed carpenter. He was an active trustee at the Barnitz United Methodist Church. In his earlier days, he was active as a scout leader in Boy Scout Troop #185, a volunteer in the Carlisle High School Band Boosters, and in his wood shop behind his home which he and his family built along the Pine Road. He loved and was well loved by his family, neighbors, and church family, and was well taken care of in his last day at Green Ridge Village.
Mervin is survived by his wife, Cleista May Barrett March, of 61 years. They were married at his parent’s home in Mt. Holly Springs on Feb. 9, 1952 by the Rev. H.E. Krone. He is survived by a daughter, Deborah K. (Rev. Jonathan) Bream of Carlisle and Brooklyn, N.Y. and a son, Michael (Merry) March of Gardners. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Christopher Bucher, Steve March, Jennifer March, Stephanie March; three great grandchildren: Machenzie Bucher, ChyAnn Bucher, and Wyoming Bucher. Also surviving are four sisters: Dorothy Ehling, Jean Blocher, Shirley Gantt, Patricia Barto and two brothers: Lester and Lee March. He was preceded in death by his parents William S. and Viola Coulson March, sister Helen Taylor and brothers, Earl and Harold March.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM at his home church, the Barnitz United Methodist Church, 23 Church Lane, Carlisle, PA. Officiating will be his pastor the Rev. Rick Robinson. There will be no viewing. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. There will be a visitation on Wednesday morning in his church from 10:00 AM until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Barnitz United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA.
