Marian Leer

Marian Pauline (Books) Leer, 78, of York Springs, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 in the York Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Marian, better known as Mim, was born February 21, 1937 in Gardners, PA.  She was the daughter of the late Walter V. Books and Mae A. (Divens) Books.

Mim is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Herman B. Leer; her two children, Lori A. Kennedy and husband Wendell and Lee A. Leer and wife Cindie; four grandchildren, Maggie L. Hermansen and husband Kurt, Lance W. Kennedy and wife Alie, Kaitlyn M. Leer and Madison L. Leer; and three great-grandchildren, Kylee M. Hermansen, Kacie M. Hermansen and Keith M. Hermansen, all of York Springs, PA. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Gary Books and four sisters, Romaine Harman, Martha Books, Marie Books and Evelyn Books.

Mim was a 1956 graduate of York Springs High School, where she was class secretary and a member of the history club, band and chorus.  After graduation, Mim worked as a switchboard operator for United Telephone and as a waitress at local restaurants.  Mim worked for Smith’s Food Market in York Springs for over 40 years.  She also worked part-time at Connelly’s Beverage in Dillsburg, York Springs Auto Auction and for local fruit growers in the York Springs area. Mim was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, York Springs, for more than 58 years, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday school teacher, Church Council member and sang in the church choir.  Mim was active in the York Springs Girl Scouts as an assistant leader and was a life member of York Springs Fire Company Auxiliary. Mim enjoyed being outdoors, mowing her grass, gardening, and working on their farm.  She especially loved cooking for her family and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 216 Main Street, York Springs, PA with Rev. Benjamin Leese, officiating.  A viewing will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Serving as pallbearers:  Lee Leer, Wendell Kennedy, Lance Kennedy, Kurt Hermansen, Dennis Harman and Randy Lory.  Interment will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery, York Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 216 Main Street, York Springs, PA 17372.
