Margaret Annan Seifert

October 20, 1931 — September 4, 2024

Mechanicsburg

M. Annan Seifert, 92, of Mechanicsburg, PA died on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 while enjoying time on her beloved patio. She was born October 20, 1931 to the late Margaret A. (Pollock) and DeWitt T. Gable. Annan was a graduate of Mechanicsburg High School Class of 1949 where she met her late husband, Albert Seifert. They married February 17, 1952.

A lifetime member of the Episcopal Church, she initially attended St. Stephen’s in Harrisburg but, for the last 51 years she has attended St. Luke’s in Mechanicsburg where she served in the alter guild. All who knew Annan, were aware of her unwavering faith in the power of prayer and the essential sharing of weekly Holy Communion. A staunch believer in learning to swim, many locals knew her as the tough American Red Cross Swimming Instructor who no matter how cold the water, you got in and practiced your rhythmic breathing or the water exercise instructor who stressed that exercise was a lifelong endeavor. Others may remember her for her outspoken comments at the Mechanicsburg School Board meetings, her brief time as a meter-maid for the downtown area and her quirky uncensored sense of humor. You never needed an invitation to visit; her home and kitchen were always open to family, friends or those that just required a place to rest and a nourishing meal. She was the informal leader of the “widow’s club” gatherings for take-out meals or popsicle parties on her patio. Annan’s most cherished role was that of mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved holiday time with family and remembered birthdays with her family-famous singing telegrams.

Annan is survived by her son, Chris A. Seifert (Brenda) of Ocala, FL and daughters, M. Annan Hollinger (Eric) of Carlisle and Tara Jankouskas of Palmyra, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Al, daughter, Kierna Black, her great grandchild, Angel Seifert, and 3 brothers, Dewitt, Francis, and Willian Gable.

A Celebration of Life Eucharist will be announced at a future date to be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 8 E. Keller St. Mechanicsburg with The Rev. Canon Katherine Harrigan officiant. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Annan’s memory to St Luke’s Episcopal Church, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, PO Box 422, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, or New Hope Ministries, 5228 E. Trindle Rd., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs.
