Marcia Ruth Petteys Humer, 64, of Mt. Holly Springs, passed away May 5, 2014 in the Hershey Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born February 14, 1950, in Toledo, Ohio to the late Lloyd W. and Elma Ruth Birch Petteys Sr.
Marcia was raised in Toledo and moved to Shippensburg in 1963, graduated from Shippensburg High School in 1968 and then Shippensburg State College in 1972. She was employed by The Synod of the Trinity Presbyterian Church (USA). Active in many organizations during her life, Marcia was the Assembly of Rainbow Girls Advisor and received the Cross of Honor; was a Girl Scout leader; PTO president at the Mt. Holly Springs Elementary School; a member of Allison United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was the chairperson of the Scholarship committee; member of the Old Bellaire Chapter (OES) #375 since Jan. 1974 and was Past Worthy Matron (1979-80) and held numerous grand appointments. Marcia loved her dog, Zoe; going to the beach; her children and grandchildren.
Marcia was totally devoted to her surviving daughters; Amanda “Mandy” (Ryan) Noss, of Enola, Meredith “Merry” Humer, of Harrisburg, and Michele “Shelly” (Marshall) Edens of Mountville; two grandchildren, Addison and Carter Noss; brothers, Lloyd “Rus” W. (Helen) Petteys Jr of North Canton, Ohio. and DennisL. Petteys of N. Baltimore, Ohio; sister, Kathleen “Kathy” (Robert) Miller of Carlisle; 12 nieces and nephews; and 6 great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, James B. Petteys.
Services will be held at the Carlisle United Methodist Church, 45 S. West St., Carlisle on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 3:45 PM with the Rev. Mira Hewlett officiating. Old Bellaire Chapter of the Eastern Star Services will be at 3:15 PM. A visitation and dinner will follow the services at the church.
