Lt. Col. Leonard L. Brion (Len), USAF (ret), of Carlisle, Pa passed away at Harrisburg Hospital on Wednesday, August 6, 2014. He was born October 24, 1921 in Liberty, PA to the late Van A. and Lillian Ostrom Brion and celebrated 68 years of marriage in 2014 to Margaret Frazier Brion (Peg), also of Liberty.
Len, 92, a graduate of Lock Haven State Teachers College, earned his wings in the United States Army Air Corps during WWll. He served a 34 year career as a decorated USAF pilot which included WWll, the Berlin Airlift, the Viet Nam War and the Cold War. Len earned extensive honors including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters. He was also a member of the Liberty Evangelical Lutheran Church.
In addition to his wife, Len is survived by his children, Nan Brion-Gingery of Germany, Larry Brion (Alison) of CT, and Suzanne Anduze (Neal) of Washington. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Laura Brion of RI, Julia Brion (Michael Strange) of CT, Meredith Brion of CA, Nathan Anduze of WA and Brion Anduze of WA; a great grandchild, Sylvia; and nephew, Terry Brion (Pat) of OK.
Lt Col Brion (ret) will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to "The Welcome Home Initiative" at www.byhiswoundsministry.org located in Virginia Beach, VA, a program for combat veterans, administered by the Revered Nigel Mumford, or to a program of your choice.
