Lester L. Devanie, 84, of Boiling Springs passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in the Carlisle Regional Medical. He was born March 12, 1929 in Newark, NJ, to the late Marcus and Catherine Lehman Devanie. Lester was a former employee of Masland & Sons with 25 years of service and retired from PPG with 25 years of service. He was a member of Opossum Hill Union Church and had a variety of hobbies including: hunting and fishing, NASCAR racing, boxing, boating, and collecting guns and knives. Lester loved the outdoors, enjoyed going to auctions and was an avid sports fan. He was an Army veteran.
Lester is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Faye E. Myers Devanie, and three sons, Gregory Lester (Miranda) of Gardners, David Lynn (Lisa) of Churchtown and Steven Douglas (Dorothy) of Enola. In addition he is survived by 7 grandchildren, Heidi J. Thomason of Mt. Holly NJ, Lauren M. Devanie of Overland Park, KS, David Tyler Devanie, serving in the U.S. Army at Ft. Bragg, Norfolk, VA, Jami Devanie of Churchtown, Alexanna Devanie of Boiling Springs, Walter Hockley of Gardners and Jason Hockley of Carlisle; 3 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are three step- grandchildren: Skyler McCoy of Carlisle, Michelle (Bobby) Enck of Arizona, and Michael Mesarit of Enola. Lester was predeceased by his daughter, Crystal Devanie Hockley and his brother, Harry Devanie.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Opossum Hill Union Church, 601 Opossum Lake Rd., Carlisle, PA 17015 with the Rev. Randall L. Zook, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family, a public viewing will be held at Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs on Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM, March 18, 2013. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
