Leroy "Sam" Henry Zimmerman

Leroy “Sam” H. Zimmerman, 88, of Carlisle, PA, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, with his family by his side. He was born April 18, 1936, in Mechanicsburg, PA, to the late George Leroy and Florence Grace (Swanger) Zimmerman.

Leroy served in the United States Navy from 1956-1960 and after serving, he started working in the automotive repair business for several dealerships. He eventually went into partnership with Z & W Auto Body Shop in Franklintown, PA. Leroy was a member and cooked at the Original Mechanicsburg Men’s Club, working alongside his father and several brothers on the weekends.

After his retirement, he spent the winters in Florida and the summers on the “Farm”. One of his favorite past times was wood cutting characters and decorations so that his wife could paint and decorate their camp sites with and give gifts to friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Maxine B. (Walters) Zimmerman; children, Barbara J. Rynard (Stanley); Leroy H. Zimmerman, Jr. (Jody), Laura A. (Kurt) Kempf, and Michael L. (Jodie); seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren; brother, Robert Zimmerman; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leroy is preceded in death by his siblings, Harold “Crum” Powell, Betty Huey, Donald Zimmerman, Ronald “Tuffy” Zimmerman, William Zimmerman, Larry Zimmerman, and Ada Lynn.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 2708 Commerce Drive, Suite 300, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. Mt. Holly Springs.
