Lawrence L. Verdekal, Sr., 75, of Carlisle, PA passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015 in the Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was the widower of E. Louise Verdekal who passed away July 24, 2014 and was born on April 22, 1940 in Carlisle to the late Albert & Claudia Chiari Verdekal. Lawrence graduated from the Carlisle High School Class of 1958, earned a degree in accounting and finance from Lycoming College in 1963, received his MBA in 1971 from University of Scranton, graduating with honors and obtained his CPA license in 1972. Lawrence had 10 years experience as a member of various national and regional CPA firms and over 30 years experience as a CFO of various public and nonpublic corporations. He was professor at Shippensburg State College for 7 years and retired from Allied Inc. in 2015. He loved car racing, especially the Indy 500 and Formula One, drove in the MGB series and was a past SCCA driver. Lawrence was a member of St. Patrick Shrine Church, where he once served as an altar boy, a life member of the BPOE # 578 and belonged to AMVETS # 274.
Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Lisa Verdekal; his son, Lawrence L. Verdekal, Jr. and a grandson, Dylan, all of Carlisle. Also surviving are his siblings, Lois Littlehale of Marietta, PA and Vincent Verdekal of San Antonio TX, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be celebrated in the St. Patrick Shrine Church, 152 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle, PA 17013 on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 1:30 PM with the Very Reverend William C. Forry, VF officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church.
