KATHRYN MULLEN (Kate) SHOVER, 92

In the 1941 Carlisle High School yearbook, Kate was described as “easy to get along with…bell-clapper snatcher…artistic talent…practical joker…budding poetess…likes Hershey bars”. And the same can be said today.

On Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, Kate passed away at her daughter, Nina’s home, where she resided since 2010. Her final days were peaceful, and she lived a happy, active life up until the very end.

Born in Carlisle on May 17, 1923 to the late George W. and Kathryn Mullen. Kate married the late Ted R. Shover in 1948. She worked in the payroll department at the former Carlisle Tire and Rubber prior to raising her family. She was a  member of the former Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Holly Springs. Kate is survived by her daughter, Nina Shover and son-in-law, Tom Mottola; son, Alan Shover (Beckey); two grandsons, Jason (Jessica) and Aaron (Lori); five great-granddaughters, Addison, Ava, Ana, Clara and Miriam; brother, Richard Mullen of Arizona. She is predeceased by her son, Todd, 6 brothers, (Robert, Mark, Warren, George, Donald, Jack) and 4 sisters, (Betty, Leah, Eleanor, Jane).

Nina and Tom would like to honor Kate’s memory by inviting people to a casual gathering at their home (24 Woodview Drive, Mount Holly Springs, PA). Guests can visit any time between 1:00 and 5:00 PM on Saturday, April 9th. In lieu of flowers and because this was special to Kate, please take an older person out for a meal which includes dessert. A special thanks must be extended to Brenda, Morgan, Tammy and Virginia for what they did for Kate.

Nina and Tom lovingly cared for Kate and this poem sums up the sentiment of their devotion:“A mother’s love is a blessing, No matter where you roam.
