Karl Edgar "Ed" Sowers, 83, of, Gardners, PA, passed away June 18, 2019 in the UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg. He was born May 18, 1936 in Hunters Run (Gardners), PA to the late Chester and Esther (Weidner) Sowers.
Karl was a graduate of Biglerville High School, Class of 1954. He worked for C.H. Masland and Sons as a pipefitter and retired from Carlisle Syntech, where he worked in refrigeration and maintenance. An avid outdoorsman, Karl loved hunting, fishing, cutting wood for his outdoor furnace and was a member of the Williams Grove Steam Engine Association. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving is his loving wife of 64 years, Glora M. (Rickrode) Sowers of Gardners; four children, Joan Emlet and husband, David of Gardners, Jerry Sowers and wife, Kim and Gene Sowers and wife, Donna, both of Mechanicsburg and Julie Rice and husband, George of Blain. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Jason, Andrew, Kyle, Sandy, Troy, Matthew, Jake, Luke, Benjamin and Joseph; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Lynn Sowers of Florida and Roger Sowers of California. Karl was preceded in death by his siblings, Ivan "Jack" Sowers and Leona Chronister.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 with Rev. Richard L. Reese officiating. A viewing will be held two hours prior to the services and burial will be in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4250 Crums Mill Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17112. Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
