Joyce L. Griest, 82, of Gardners passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 at her home. She was born April 15, 1934 in Adams County to the late Mervin and Helen Shoap Day and the widow of Melvin E. Griest who passed away February of 2007.
Joyce worked for the Bermudian School District for 22 years as a teacher's aide. She was a member of the Uriah United Methodist Church. Joyce loved the outdoors, going camping and enjoyed being with her family. She was known for her cooking and baking, especially her fried chicken. She will always be remembered for her laugh and fun loving personality.
She is survived by her son, Randy E. (Kimberly) Griest of Gardners; two daughters, Denise Y. (Clifton) VanArtsdalen of Gardners and Tammy L. (Timothy) Ruth of New Oxford. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Nevin and Crystal VanArtsdalen, Whitney Smith, Savannah Strine and Emma Ruth; 2 great grandchildren, Elly and Max; a nephew Gerald Day of Carlisle. Joyce was predeceased by three brothers, Maynard, Gerald and Dale Day.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Uriah United Methodist Church, 925 Goodyear Road, Gardners, PA 17324 with the Rev. Jeffery Canankamp officiating. There will be a visitation from Saturday, May 14, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Hollinger Funeral Home, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065. Interment will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her church, or Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
