Joseph Black I

February 5, 1937 — April 27, 2020

Joseph W. Black I went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 27, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Born February, 5, 1937 in Carlisle, PA to the late Nelson S. and Pearl S. (Saphore) Black, he is survived by loving his wife of 63 years, Colleen A. (Clark) Black of Boiling Springs.

Joe was a member of the Carlisle Eagles Aerie 1299, a founding member of the South Penn Enduro Riders, and was in the Boy Scouts of America Order of the Arrow. He retired with 42 years of service from M. H. Dialetric, formerly Peter J. Schweitzer Paper Mill of Mt. Holly Springs.

Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, grilling, gardening, listening to bluegrass and gospel music, as well as traveling to Potter County to spend time in the mountains. In addition to the many dogs and cats he owned as pets over the years, he loved watching bears, raccoons, and really any forest creatures.  His sense of humor and storytelling ability made him a friend to everyone he met.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, all of whom will miss him dearly.

He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Jo Snyder and husband Tim of Carlisle and son, Joseph W. Black II and wife Deena of Boiling Springs. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Shaun Stambaugh of Carlisle, Rebekah Mitchell of Palmyra, Adrienne Lemasters and husband Zak of Enola and J. Wesley Black III of Boiling Springs; two great grandchildren, Bristol Stambaugh of McConnellsburg and Cooper Mitchell of Palmyra and his brother, Samuel Black and wife Jacky of Carlisle. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Black.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to Spiritrust, 1920 Good Hope Rd., Enola, PA 17205.
