John E. Dyson, 83, of Mt. Holly Springs, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015 in the Cumberland County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born October 22, 1931 in Ettrick, VA to the late John W. and Dora J. Butler Dyson Jr., he was the widower of Antoinette Miller Dyson who passed away February 6, 2014.
John was an engineer at the former McCoy Electronics and the Tax Mapping Supervisor for Cumberland Co. He was a life member and past commander of the South Mountain American Legion Post #674 and was also a former Cumberland County Commander and a District Commander. A US Marine Corps veteran, John served in the Korean War. An avid fisherman and golfer, his greatest love was spending time with his family.
John is survived by three sons, John J. (Nancy) of Carlisle, Michael W. (Cheri) of Sparta, NC and Mark V. of Essex, MD; two daughters, Deborah L. (Scott) Hershey of Dillsburg and Dora J. (John) Kuntz of Newville; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM in Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA with Rev. Richard Reese officiating. There will be a viewing Thursday, May 21, 2015 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery with honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the South Mountain American Legion Post #674, John Dyson Veteran’s Fund, 601 W. Pine St., Mt. Holly Springs, Pa 17065.
