Jean Smith

Jean Nickle Smith, 93, formerly of Newport and Country Meadows Hershey, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014, at the Columbia Cottage of Hershey. She was born February 13, 1921 in Millerstown to the late Hubert and Martha Rice Nickle.

Jean retired from the Foss Jewelry Store in Mifflintown and was a member of the Hope Eternal United Methodist Church, Red Hill, Newport. She was a former member of the Newport Garden Club and volunteered for Meals On Wheels.

Jean is survived by her husband of 69 years, Lester E. Smith; two sons, Richard E. (Barbara) Smith of Harrisburg and Leon L. (Margie) Smith of Lewistown; grandchildren, Peter L. Smith of New Cumberland, Brian C. (Fell) Smith of Manayunk, PA, Heidi (William) Payne of Harrisburg and Richelle (Michael) Sigafoos of Royersford, PA; 4 great grandchildren; and a sister, Theresa N. Hollinger Foss of Lewistown. She was predeceased by three sisters: Aleta Foss, Gwen Hollinger and Jacqueline Nickle.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 15, 2014 at 11:30 AM in her church at 2 Burd Rd., Newport, PA 17074 with Rev. Daniel Dennis officiating. Interment will be in the Newport Cemetery. A viewing will be held in her church one hour prior to the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at her church.
