Jack H. Shannon, 80, passed away on March 4, 2015 at the Church of God Home, Carlisle, PA, surrounded by his family. He was born in Carlisle on April 3, 1934 to the late Mervin and Ruth (Croman) Shannon and was a lifelong resident of Mt. Holly Springs.
Jack was a 1953 graduate of Carlisle High School and served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958. Very active civically, Jack was a former commander of the VFW #7343, Mt. Holly Springs, a long time trustee of the BPOE #578, Carlisle, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Arie 1299, Carlisle and participated in the South Middleton Chapter of the Jaycees, serving as president and as an international senator. He was also a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle following the closing of the Mt. Holly Springs Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he had been a lifelong member. Jack was employed for many years at the former Schweitzer Paper Co, Mt. Holly Springs and then retired from Dickinson College, Carlisle.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia L. Cook Shannon; his sons, Scott P. Shannon of Carlisle and Kevin M. Shannon and wife Colleen (Thompson) of Mechanicsburg; and his daughter, Diane M. Sebastian of Carlisle. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Jessica and James Sebastian, and Kieran and Riley Shannon. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Russell; a brother, Kirk Shannon; a half sister, Edna Long; and two half brothers, James and Paul Miller.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Carol Bowman officiating at the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065. Interment will be in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery, where the Cumberland County Honor Guard will present the honors. There will be a viewing on Monday, March 9 at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM, with an Elks service at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to his church at 201 W.
