Howard Franklin Miller, age 97, passed away peacefully at the home of his son, Geoffrey G. Miller (Linda) of Carlisle, PA on Thursday, August 21, 2014. Mr. Miller was born in Freeland, PA on May 28, 1917 to the late Howard F. and Mary Zahn Miller Sr.
He joined the Army in 1941 and served in the 920 th Signal Battalion as a Staff Sergeant Message Center Chief in New Guinea and the Philippines during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was married to Marguerite Miller for 68 years until her passing in 2011. Retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1972, Howard worked as a mail employee on trains. He farmed his 136 acres of land in Carlisle, PA for many years, and enjoyed doing intricate work on restoring old musical instruments.
Howard is survived by his son, Huntley “Chet” Miller (Peggy) of Carlisle, PA, daughter, Renee Andwood (Jim) of Bedford, NH and daughter, Karen Blackbird (Tegan) of Elizabethtown, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Merideth Fernandez (Manuel), Melissa Miller, Jason Miller (Jenny), Raena Miller, Ben Andwood, Jordon Blackbird, Elizabeth Andwood and Ethan Blackbird and his loving great grandchildren: Brandon DeVera, Aliesha Shoff, Abby Fernandez, Kierstyn Thompson and Zachary Fernandez.
Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the convenience of the family. On line condolences to the family may be made at www.hollingerfuneralhome.com
