Gertrude McKillip

Gertrude R. Farner McKillip, 93, formally of Mt. Holly Springs and Mechanicsburg, and most recently a resident of Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013.

Born on June 21, 1920 in Boiling Springs, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Elva Warner Rupp and widow of John H. Farner who died October 1979 and Lawson L. McKillip who died December 2006. Gertrude was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Sowers.

She was a graduate of Carlisle High School Class of 1940, retired from South Middleton School District, Rice Elementary Cafeteria and was also a former employee of the First National Bank of Mount Holly Springs. Gertrude was a member of the former Mt. Holly Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1935 and attended The First United Methodist Church of Mechanicsburg where she was a member of the May Fetrow Sunday School Class. She also belonged to the NARFE Chapter # 373, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post # 7343, the Cumberland County Historical Society, and the Golden Age Club.

Gertrude is survived by four daughters and one son: Vicki Wilson and husband Alan; Marie Dodson and husband Daniel , both of Carlisle; Sandra Barron of Limerick, PA; Angelia McKillip; and Michael McKillip and wife Karen of Middletown, PA. She was loving grandmother of 12: Brian Wilson and wife Sandra; Kevin Wilson and wife Jamie; Sadie Hockenberry; Nichole Shenk and husband Geoffery; Bryce Dodson; Matthew Brandt and wife Anna; Elli, Rachel, and Tre Barron; Amanda and Kevin McKillip; Shawn McKillip and wife Autumn; and a loving great- grandmother of eight and great-great-grandmother of one.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM July 31, 2013 in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 with the Rev. David J. Schreffler officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening, July 30 from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
