Gerald F. Hoover, 89, of Carlisle, Pa passed away on May 12, 2017 at home. He was born December 23, 1927 in Chambersburg, PA to the late Chester and Esther (Keefer) Hoover.
Gerald served in the US Marines during World War II. He retired at the age of 87, Gerald was a draftsman for Tracy Engineering in Dillsburg and also worked at the Salvation Army and Dickinson College. He was a member of the Mt. Holly Springs Church of God and a former member of the First Lutheran Church in Carlisle. Gerald played golf at every course in the local area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with taxidermy as a favorite pastime.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn (Runk) Hoover of Carlisle; three daughters, Kimberly (Thomas) Bailey of Newville, Leslie Hollen of Carlisle, and Robin (Dwight) Snyder of Plainfield; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving Gerald are two sisters, June Hummelsine of Chambersburg and Pat Newman of Fayetteville. He was preceded in death by siblings, Robert Hoover, Betty Johns and Gladys Newman.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Mt. Holly Springs, Church of God, 602 McLand Drive, Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 with the Rev. Richard Reese officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Holly Springs Church of God or Celtic Hospice, 900 Century Drive, Suite 201, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home and Crematory, Mt. Holly Springs, PA.
