George H. “Bird” Ditzel, 102, of Carlisle passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2013 at the Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. He was born February 19, 1911 in Mt. Holly Springs, PA to the late George & Rose Leaper Ditzel. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Noggle Ditzel who passed away December 19, 1988; a daughter, Donna Walters and her husband Max; 3 brothers and; 4 sisters.
George retired from the Carlisle Tire and Rubber Company. As a long standing member of the Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday School and participated in many church activities. George also belonged to the Mt. Holly Springs Band and was a co-leader of the town Brownie troop with his wife. He enjoyed watching football, baseball, bowling and bull riding. A jovial person at heart, George loved telling jokes and going to Dunkin Donuts for coffee with friends each day. An avid fishermen and hunter, he also liked to complete crossword puzzles, wrote poetry and grew his own tomatoes from seed.
Surviving is his daughter, Wendy A. Freyvogel and her husband, George of Harrisburg, PA; 6 grand children and; 7 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10:30 AM in the Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church, 202 W. Butler St., Mt. Holly Springs, Pa 17065 with the Rev. Ed Alwine officiating. There will be a viewing at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. Burial will be in the Mt. Holly Springs, Cemetery.
