Gary Raymond Dailey

January 25, 1953 — April 22, 2024

Carlisle

Gary Raymond Dailey, 71, of Carlisle, PA, woke up in the arms of Jesus on the “Shores of Glory”, on April 22, 2024. He was receiving care in the Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, supplemented by Grane Hospice, Carlisle. He was born January 25, 1953, in Meshoppen, PA, to the late Archie “Red” Raymond and Mary (Elsbree) Dailey.

Gary was a Penn State graduate, obtaining an associate degree in Computer Science. He retired from Proctor & Gamble, where he rose to middle management, serving for 28 years. Gary was a motorhead and could answer just about any question about cars. He found joy in this journey of life in hunting, fishing, collecting fancy cars and guns, playing guitar, singing, and simply spending time talking and being with those he loved. Gary was a man of faith who also taught his wife, Deb, to find joy in the journey instead of just the destination as they rode motorcycles together. Although he loved all motorcycles, his favorite by far was his White Harley Davidson. He was given the nickname, “energizer bunny”, by his sister, Deb, after overcoming some of his medical problems early on. He persevered through very many

close calls and continued to live into that name as he “took a lickin’ and kept on tickin’.” Gary was a strong man who persevered through many adversities in life. No matter what stage of life, Gary maintained a unique sense of humor, and an inquisitive mind and never lost his love for learning and reading. In his faithful love of his Lord and his wife, Gary embraced the itinerant life as Deb’s partner in ministry. Gary was a proud member of numerous United Methodist Churches that his wife was appointed to. He enjoyed making friends and his heart was truly touched by the loving kindness and grace of his new church family at Middlesex UMC.

Surviving is his loving wife, Debra Jean “Deb” (Byerly) Dailey of Carlisle; children, John Glen Vandermark (Companion, Theresa) of Philipsburg, PA, Amanda Louise Vandermark of Belefonte, PA; granddaughter, Flora Rae; sister, Debra Ann and family, Dawn McCrea (Jim) and family, David Byerly (Lorrie) and family, Dianne (Leo) Hearst, III, and family; as well as numerous extended family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 4th, 2024, at 10:30 AM in the Middlesex United Methodist Church, 118 North Middlesex Road, Carlisle, PA, 17013 with Rev. Lori Steffensen officiating.  Burial will be held privately in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall, PA.
