Fred W. Wardecker, 83, of Carlisle, PA, passed away November 11, 2024, in the UPMC Carlisle Hospital. He was born February 12, 1941, in Carlisle, to the late James T. and Anna (Davis) Wardecker.
Fred was a graduate of Carlisle High School’s class of 1959. He was the owner of Wardecker’s Menswear, which was the oldest retail business in downtown Carlisle for many years until he retired in 2020. Fred served his community in the Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Carlisle Water Authority and the planning committee for the downtown Farmer’s Market. He was also involved in the Downtown Carlisle Association and was a member of the Sons of Bosses Club.
Like his father, Fred was an authority on local history and was consulted by both Robert Wheeler and Bill Crawford when they were researching their books on athlete, Jim Thorpe.
Surviving is his loving wife, Linda (Rider) Wardecker of Carlisle; children, Krista K. Wardecker and Mark W. Wardecker, both of Boiling Springs; sisters, Ketrin Loney and Gretchen K. McCarren, both of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, James D. Wardecker.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 501 N. Baltimore Ave, Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 with Pastor Keith Blank officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service on November 24, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.
