Elmer Lee Ritter, 89, of Mechanicsburg passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the West Shore Hospital. He was the widower of Gladys Shearer Ritter, who passed away June 16, 2008. Elmer was born March 27, 1925 to the late Elmer L. and Julia Glascow Ritter in New Kingstown.

A graduate of Mechanicsburg High School Class of 1943, he then served in the US Navy during WWII. Elmer was a member of the First United Methodist Church, served on the board of directors at Homeland Center, Harrisburg, was a member of the Mechanicsburg Cemetery Assoc., and a life member of the Mechanicsburg Club.

Lee loved construction and spent most of his life in various capacities within that industry, starting as a journeyman carpenter. Upon Retirement he was President of Ritter Bros., Inc. General Contractors, a past President of the Harrisburg Builders Exchange; an Honorary Board Member and Past President of the Keystone Contractors Association; and a Former Officer and Board Member of the General Contractors Association of Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his daughter, Candace Lee Ritter of West Chester and his sister, Genevieve (William) Bromley of Mechanicsburg. He was predeceased by his brother, Myron U. Ritter and his sister, Joanne Hurgeton.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, September 26, 2014 at 10:00AM in the First United Methodist, Simpson & Frederick Streets, Mechanicsburg, with Rev. Michael V. Minnix officiating. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Homeland Hospice, 2300 Vartan Way, Suite 115, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Luncheon to follow at T. J. Rockwells, 896 W. Grantham Road, Mechanicsburg.  Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs.
