Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Goodhue was born on August 29, 1926 in Elgin Illinois.  She was the daughter of Donald LeRoy Goodhue and Kathryn Mildred Goodhue (Curran).  Betty resided in the Negaunee Michigan area until the death of her mother in 1932 at which time she relocated to Hixton, Wisconsin to live with her grandparents (William and Cora Curran).

Betty moved to the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area in association with a job change for her father.  She attended Donora High School and later attended Mercy School of Nursing.  She graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in June 1947 and started her career as a registered nurse.  She used her nursing skills as a nurse initially at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh and later, starting in 1965, at Citizen General Hospital in New Kensington, Pennsylvania.

On May 28, 1949 at St. Bedes Church in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Betty (Elizabeth Jean Goodhue) married Robert J. Kane.  They lived at several locations in Western Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh, Penn Hills and New Kensington) while raising their 4 sons (Robert, Gerald, James and Brian).

In addition to spending time with her children and grand children, Betty’s interests were traveling (Ireland), horses, gardening, and needle point.  She (along with her husband) were part of the founding members of the Stoney Brook Saddle Club.  Betty was also a member of the Orchid Society of Western Pennsylvania.  In addition, she was an active singer in the Monroeville Golden Choir.

In 2001, Betty moved from the family farm in New Kensington to Carlisle Pa.to be closer to some of her sons.  She continued to pursue her interests in gardening and travel.  She has most recently resided in Carlisle Pa.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Robert Kane (1987), her brother William LeRoy Goodhue (1962) and her parents.

She is survived by her four sons Robert(JoAnne) Rochester, Mn., Gerald ( Beverly) Mechanicsburg Pa., James (Janet)Gibsonia Pa., Brian (Susan) Carlisle Pa., along with nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Her family is planning for a celebration of her life at a later date.
