Edna E. Hanratty, 89, of Carlisle, PA passed away peacefully at home with family surrounding Friday, October 19, 2018 at her residence. She was born August 21, 1929 in Philadelphia to the late Clarence W. and Edna (Winkel) Abel and was the widow of Edward F. Hanratty, who passed away June 17, 2016 after 64 years of marriage.
In the 1950's, Edna worked as a switchboard operator for a local politician and an insurance company. Edna and Edward relocated in the 1960's to Allentown, PA and later to Northboro, MA due to Edward's job in sales. In 1968 they found their forever home in Mechanicsburg and Edna found employment at BOMC. She retired from Hempt Brothers, Camp Hill, where she was a receptionist and was a long term parishioner of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. For many years, Edna enjoyed weekends away in Wellsboro, PA, Ocean City, NJ, and watching Dennis Sr. and Dennis Jr. race cars at Watkins Glen, NY and Summit Point, WV. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her two great-grandsons and enjoyed taking care of everyone she loved.
She is survived by her children, Dennis F. Hanratty Sr. and wife, Renee of Carlisle and Glenn E. Hanratty of Pine City, NY; grandchildren, Dennis F. Hanratty Jr. and wife, Jessica of Mechanicsburg, Jonathan Hanratty of Boulder, CO, and Hannah Sterlace of Painted Post, NY; two great-grandsons, Ethan and Carson Hanratty, both of Mechanicsburg.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 12:30 PM in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA with Deacon Jack Paruso officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 or to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110.
