E. Louise Verdekal, 72, of Carlisle passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 in her home. She was born January 9, 1942 in Kingston, PA to the late Bernard “Buck” and Viola Rosamask Brunza.
Louise was a graduate of Kingston High School and East Stroudsburg State College and taught for two years at the New Castle Public School System. She was employed as Tipstaff to the Honorable Christylee Peck; worked as an administrative assistant at Duncan & Hartman PC Atty.; and was a staff associate for 25+ years at Dickinson College, retiring in June, 2006. She then became a member of the “Seniors of Old Bellaire” for her 25+ years of service. Louise was the first associate investment officer of the University of Pennsylvania’s Endowment Fund; in conjunction with Ben Bear of Meadowbrooke Gourds, she helped develop the Meadowbrooke Gourds Cottages Line; and for many years was a member of the Cumberland County Historical Society.
Louise was fond of nature; she enjoyed gardening and the wildlife, especially the birds in her backyard. An avid fan of F-1, IRL in Transam Racing since 1954, she and her husband loved traveling to Watkins Glenn.
She is survived by her husband Lawrence L. Verdekal, Sr., whom she was married to for 50+ years; a son, Lawrence L. Jr.; a daughter, Lisa; and her grandson, Dylan, all of Carlisle. Also surviving is her brother, James Brunza of Long Island, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 9:30 AM in the St. Patrick Shrine Church, 152 E. Pomfret Street, Carlisle, PA with the Very Reverend William C. Forrey, VF, celebrant, In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick Shrine Church or to the American Cancer Society, 2 Lemoyne Dr., Suite 101, Lemoyne, PA 17043. Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA
