Doris M. Shoemaker, 86, of Gardners, PA, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017 at her home surrounded by family. She was born October 3, 1931 in Gardners, PA to the late George and Gertrude Hockley Griffie.
She was a former employee of Musselman’s Food Company, where she worked as a seasonal employee. A former member of the Toland Mission Church, she was currently attending Crossroads Bible Church, Dillsburg. Doris enjoyed studying her Bible, gardening, listening to saxophone music, and working on word-search puzzles. She enjoyed walking with Raymond along the old railroad bed to Laurel Lake. Relaxing on the back porch watching the birds sing showed her appreciation of God’s role in her life.
Doris is survived by her husband of 62 years, Raymond H. Shoemaker: four daughters, Barbara (Ron) Strine of Carlisle, Dianne Smith of Gardners, Sandra (Cloyd) Barrick of Carlisle, and Donna (Bill) Myers of Wellsville. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; numerous step grand- and great-grandchildren; and siblings, George Griffie and Judy Paxton of Gardners, and Catherine Smith, Janet Clark and Mildred Deihl, all of Carlisle. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles and Larry Griffie.
Private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Final resting place will be in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Ritner HWY, Carlisle, PA 17013. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society (1-800-227-2345), Crossroads Bible Church, Dillsburg or a Hospice Society of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt. Holly Springs, PA.
