Doris Bender

Doris J. Bender, 76, of Gardners passed away at her home Sunday, March 16, 2014. She was born August 4, 1937 in Cumberland County to the late Howard and Thelma Zarker Bittinger. Doris was a former employee of Reeves-Hoffman, Weaner Packing House, Knouse Foods and the Dillsburg Shoe Co. She  was a member of the Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Goodyear. She loved to play bingo and enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables.

Doris is survived by her husband, Darby A. Bender Sr. and her son, Darby A. Jr. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Kathy Starner Bender who passed away December 11, 1995. Also surviving are her siblings, Esther Keeney of Dillsburg, Ruth Jacoby of Carlisle Springs, Mary Adams, of Carlisle, Deb Fager of Kraulltown, Martha Starner of Gardners, Daniel Bittinger of Enola and, James and Paul Bittinger of Dillsburg. She was predeceased by her brother, David Bittinger.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 12:30 PM in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs with the Rev.  David Clark, officiating. Interment will be in the Goodyear Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM one hour prior to the service.
