Donald (Don) W. Swigart, 80, of Carlisle, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2015 in the Holy Spirit Hospital. He was born May 1, 1935 on the family farm in Oliver Township, Mifflin County to the late J. Wesley Swigart and Marion (Solouff) Swigart. His mother, Marion, survives him and resides in Reedsville, PA. Don is also survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Shirley J. Swigart (Yoder) of Carlisle, PA; three siblings, David Swigart and wife Erla of McVeystown, PA, Kay Kearns (Swigart) of Forest Hill, MD, and Robert Swigart and wife Judy of Factoryville, PA. Don and Shirley have five children: Donald Swigart and wife Leslie of Newville, PA, Lisa Pilsitz and husband Jeff of Harrisburg, PA, Lori Swigart-Leps of Carlisle, PA and husband Raymond Leps of Corbin City, NJ, Robert Swigart of Carlisle, PA, and Lona Vinarski and husband Andrew of Mechanicsburg, PA. Don also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Allyson, Donny, Emily, Jonathan, Daniel, Jordan, Maddie and Evan, along with eight great-grandchildren.
Don retired as a sales manager from Badger Northland and after retirement was employed at Mayapple Golf Course and most recently worked for Fisher Auto Parts. He was a member of the Hickorytown United Methodist Church of Carlisle, PA. In his early years, Don loved to play baseball and was named Mifflin County's Pitcher of the Year in 1961; he was also an avid Phillies fan. A golf enthusiast, Don played in many leagues, and was often approached in airports for an autograph as he looked much like Arnold Palmer. Don enjoyed hunting and woodworking, and was a master model shipbuilder.
Dearly loved, Don will be greatly missed by his family and friends. On Saturday, June 13, 2015, at 11:00 AM, a memorial service will be held at the Hickorytown United Methodist Church, 1510 West Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17015 with Rev. Donna Hughes officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his church. Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Mt.
