Donald B. Shetter “Jim” formerly of Biglerville passed away at Transitions Heath Care, Gettysburg, PA Monday, January 11, 2016. His daughter, Donna and his partner, Doris remained at his side during the last days of his life. Jim was born April 30, 1924 to the late Ralph B and Maude Group Shetter of Biglerville, PA. Maude became ill after he was born and a neighbor who cared for him said “You don't look like a Donald you look like a “Jim”. The nickname stuck and he was known as “Jim” Shetter all of his 91 years. He graduated from Biglerville High School in 1942 and joined the Navy. He served on the USS Evans, a Destroyer Battleship in the South Pacific, during WW II. In 1946 he came home to help his Dad at the service station known as “Shetter's Tire Service” which was started in 1940. In August 1946 he married Marian Fullmer who passed away in 2010 after 64 years of marriage.
Jim was very active in The Upper Adams Lions Club with 64 years of perfect attendance. He was also active in the American Legion Post 262 and The Biglerville Fire Company. He retired in 1980 and started a woodworking shop, taking great pleasure in making all kinds of wood projects for friends and family. Jim never met a stranger, he truly had “the gift of gab.” He loved meeting new people and sharing tales of his life. Jim was truly a “one of a kind” man and Father. Jim will be missed by his family, friends and community.
He is survived a daughter, Donna S Finch of Portsmouth, VA a grandson, Benjamin M. (Kim) Finch; great granddaughters, Alex and twins, Samantha & Mckenna Finch all of Long Grove, Il.; his 2 sisters, Judy Group and Renee Beutzow both of Arizona, and their families. He is also survived by the love of his life, Doris Wolfe and all of her family of Gettysburg; and his extended family, Ike and Ginger Miller of San Ramone, California. He was predeceased by his oldest daughter Amy Shetter Shuman who passed away in July, 2015.
