Donald Metzger

Donald Lee Metzger, 69, of Carlisle, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 10, 1945 in Carlisle to the late Morris Wilson Metzger and Hannah Helena Keys Metzger. He retired from AMP with 22 ½ years of service. Active in many organizations, Donald’s memberships and positions held included:  served as chairman of the board of the Mt. Holly Springs Fish & Game, served as treasurer for the Carlisle Special Fire Police, past president of the Cumberland County Fire Police Assoc., past vice president of Cumberland Goodwill Fire EMS Co. 40, a member of the Carlisle Fire and Rescue and belonged to the Carlisle BPOE #578.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Maxine E. Loy Metzger and three sons: Scott (Becky) Metzger of Mt. Holly Springs, Douglas (Jeannette) Metzger of Boiling Springs and Brian “Jake” (Heather) Metzger of Mt. Holly Springs. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Amber, Jarad, Jonathan, Alex, Sierra, Savannah, Carson, Brianna and Aidan and his great granddaughter, Avery Rae. He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Crystal Linn Metzger; five brothers, Morris, Fred, Harry, Claude, Jack and 3 sisters, Shirley, June and Dottie.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle with Rev Robert Marsh and Chaplain Frank Poley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Holly Springs Fish and Game, PO Box 144, Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 or to Carlisle Special Fire Police, 53 West South St., Carlisle, PA 17013. Arrangements are being handled by the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt.
