Debi L. Dermatis Bruno died on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, from an anoxic brain injury. She was 64.
Debi was born on February 9, 1957, in Redstone Arsenal, AL, to Joan (Loewen) Dermatis and the late Walter Dermatis.
Debi graduated from Peru High School in 1975. She held a number of jobs, including assistant manager of McDonald’s and manager of an apartment complex before obtaining a degree in Business Administration from Mercer University (Douglas County) in 1997 at the age of 40. She was a longtime and hardworking employee of JW Pepper in Atlanta and most recently the office manager at Bryant Dependable Motors.
Debi was known for her generosity and her kindness to others. She was devoted to her daughter and her grandchildren, and loved NASCAR; her dog, Bullet; and butterflies. She was very creative and handy as well as being an enthusiastic cook.
She suffered a severe aneurysm in 2010 but retained her sense of humor and love of family until the end.
She is survived by her daughter, Baylee Bruno (Michael Awua), of Dallas, GA; her mother, Joan Dermatis, of Carlisle, PA; her sisters, Donna (Michael) Jaye of Carlisle, PA, and Dayle (Kenneth Meese) Dermatis of West Linn, OR; her grandchildren, A’mari, A’miyah, and Ashton; and multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Debi will be laid to rest on July 11 at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid, following a graveside service that will begin at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Callaway Resort & Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA, home of the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center.
