David “Mac” E. McKinney, 79, of Carlisle, PA, passed away on November 16, 2024, in the UPMC Carlisle Hospital. He was born April 23, 1945, in Carlisle to the late Clyde and O. Ruth (Miller) McKinney. David was the widower of Geraldine McKinney who passed away in November of 2020.

After graduating from Carlisle High School, David joined the National Guard in South Carolina. Then following his service, he worked as a police officer for the Carlisle Borough for over 25 years. He was the deputy sheriff of Cumberland County from 1974-2006 and also worked as a security officer for Dickinson College and Amazon. David was a member of the National Rifle Association, Carlisle Lodge #260, Tri County Lodge #76, and Fraternal Order of Police. In his younger years, Dave was a skilled marksman, earning trophies in shooting competitions. He cherished spending time with his family, enjoyed hunting, fishing, western and crime TV shows, scenic car rides, and the tranquility of the mountains. Plus he also enjoyed spending time with his family's furry friends. 

Surviving are his two daughters, Ginger (Jim) Massey of Shippensburg and Jamie (Jeff) Stambaugh of Mechanicsburg and two grandchildren, Nicholas (Anna) Massey and Zachary Massey. In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by his siblings, Gladys Wagner, Romayne Lintner, Doris Brownawell, Clyde McKinney, Jr., and infant baby B. Mckinney. 

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Visit HollingerFuneralHome.com to offer condolences to the family.
