Clifford R. Brown, 90, of Mechanicsburg, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May, 12 at his home. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Louise Burtner Brown, who died April 15, 2013 with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Clifford was born December 30, 1924 in Mechanicsburg to the late Charles and Dora Smith Brown.
One of the greatest examples of The Greatest Generation, Cliff was a lifelong resident of Mechanicsburg. He was a graduate of Mechanicsburg High School Class of 1942 and the East Stroudsburg State Teachers College Class of 1949. He retired as a manager, with 30 years of service, from the former Lemoyne Frozen Food Center and retired from the SPCC Naval Supply Depot. Cliff was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mechanicsburg. He was a US Army veteran of WW II, serving with the 70 th Infantry Division in Europe. Cliff was the recipient of a Battlefield Commission, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, three campaign battle stars and a Battalion Unit Citation. His story was the story of America and Mechanicsburg.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Terry R. (Judy) Brown of Columbia, MD and his daughter, Sue Ann (John) Petry of Clark Summit, PA. Also surviving are four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and his sister, Isabelle Forshey of Martinsburg, PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service Monday at 1:00PM, May 18, 2015 in the Rolling Green Memorial Park, 1811 Carlisle Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011 with Chaplain Brand Eaton officiating. The Cumberland County Honor Guard will present military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church at 135 West Simpson St., Mechanicsburg PA 17055 or to the Mechanicsburg Area High School Alumni Assoc., P.O.
