Claude Burd "Sonny"

Claude L. Burd (Sonny), Our beloved father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 27 ^th , 2015 at John’s Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. He was born September 16, 1931 in Carlisle, the son of Sara E. (Brenneman) and Chester Burd. Claude attended Carlisle High School and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Carlisle Army War Barricks after 35 years and F. W. Woolworth after 30 years. Claude was a member of the American Legion Post 101, The Fraternal Order of the Eagles 1299 and the VFW #477. He loved his two dogs, Powder and Jesse; enjoyed cooking and gardening, and always had a beautiful lawn and flowers. Claude was predeceased in death by his wife of 49 years, Louise A. (Varano) Burd; a sister, Dorothy Loyd; and two brothers, Robert and Donald Lee. He is survived by his son, Alan L. Burd (wife Penny) of Carlisle and his daughter, Lisa L. Calaman (husband Christopher) of Mechanicsburg; six grandchildren, Danielle Guilles, Brandon Darhower, Jinina Bender, Desiray Bender, Emery Bender and Shaela Bender; sixteen great grandchildren, Dante, Claudia, Christopher, Jackson, Sarah, Eliza, Carter, Laila, Cayne, Jayce, Bentley, Landon, Brodey, Christian, Bradyn and Serenity; three step great grandchildren, Jasmine, John and Bryson; two sisters, Shirlley Crull   and Linda Vincent (husband Barry) both of Carlisle and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday, July 30, 2015 in the Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, PA 17065 at 8:00 PM with Rev. Richard L.
